camera on a wall hook

Snapshots all day long!

As I scroll through my phone images I see that my whole relationship to pictures has changed since my camera days.  I used to take very intentional pictures with my camera, initially because it was film and film was expensive to process. Then, when we went digital, I still felt an obligation to frame the shot, get the light right, create a scene.  All of that required the stars to align and for me to be there with camera in hand.

But now, I’ve got my camera with me all of the time – on my phone.  And I take a lot fewer pictures, and a lot more snaps than I used to – but my intention is totally different!  Now I snap all of the time to capture colors and ideas that I can use for inspiration.  Nature does an amazing job of putting the right colors together.

Look at the pink flower with the yellow and light green center. Can’t you see that triple-combo in a knit sweater or socks or a small painted table?

Take in the stormy sunset which is a dark dark blue and moody grey broken up by the smallest slice of bright pink-orange.  Play with that!

Capture the contrast of the bright fall leaves agains the dark brown wood.  A glazed mug of dark brown with the drips down of pinks and oranges.  I’d drink out of that!

I do miss my camera at times, but I’m really enjoying taking snapshots so much more now!  And it is inspiring me to take up other crafts to express what I see in nature through other mediums.
