I really am a city person. All of the way down to the grey asphalt. Wandering around a neighborhood, soaking in the history of the architecture, stores, monuments, parks – it’s probably one of the most pleasurable things I can think of.
Buildings are particularly fun to look at. A mix of simplicity (five windows across, twenty down), mixed with detail (cornices and stucco work).
Amsterdam is a great place for expressive architecture.
Amsterdam is also home to many of my favorite museums.
The Knock-off Artist
The Rijksmuseum is great for getting nose to nose with a masterpiece where you can really take in the brush strokes, the thickness of the paint, the size of the canvas. I always leave the Rijk inspired to do art – sometimes I’m inspired to do that art.
On this particular trip, I didn’t bring paper so i bought something about A8 size (2x3ish) and knocked off some. I guess I can say my works were ‘in the Rijksmuseum’ – though it was only for the photo op… then I tucked them right back into my pocket.
